Your role: Senior Big Data Engineer Amsterdam
As Senior Big Data Engineer Amsterdam you will in essence be responsible for the optimization and continuous development of the self-service big data platform, responsible for huge amount of data for the vast array of online products by using Big Data in a smart way. From day to day you will work a multidisciplinary and international team, even spread over multiple countries. You will be working with highly intelligent data scientist, business analysts and your big data engineering colleagues to improve the platform.

As Big Data has a huge focus within the organization you can look forward to doing great things here in the coming years! At the moment they are moving to Amazon cloud and are going to do real time processing making use of technologies like Storm and Spark. One of the challenges is how to adapt to changing data processing requirements in the cloud in an intelligent way. You will be responsible of building and maintaining closed loop optimization, map reduce processes , import/export processes and intermediate formats for the big data platform.

You will furthermore build integration solutions between vast array of online platforms within their portfolio. All to in the end to use big data to increase the added value of the many online product to the millions of end users . As the data comes in from millions of users your work is highly visible. As the time to market is generally quite short you will be challenged a lot. Fortunately you have a lot of room to come up with more ideas to use your skills to help the business forward.
Your requirements

Excellent experience in data engineering, preferably having working in multiple environments

A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or similar studies

Good conceptual knowledge of distributed programming

Experience with multiple migrations

Excellent comprehension with Data Models

Good insight into architecture

Communicative, not afraid to speak to the (internal) business/stakeholder

Good experience with Python or Java

Experience with Hadoop or AWS

Experience with REST is a plus

Experience with Mapreduce is a big plus

Experience with NoSQL technology like Mongo is a plus

Experience with Flume, Kafka or Scala is a plus
