Software Group Manager Image Acquisition and Detection (R&D)
The position of the Software Group Manager is part of the Image Acquisition and Detection (IA&D) multi-disciplinary Building Block. The Image Acquisition and Detection group is responsible for the delivery of all acquisition sub-systems, including detector control, system integration, data acquisition, on-line processing, data storage, and interfacing with market specific application software. The software stack includes FPGA, embedded Linux and PC software, written mostly in modern C++. We are actively and successfully working on pushing out legacy code, and working towards a more modular, scalable system and software architecture.
As the Software Group Manager Image Acquisition and Detection you are part of the multidisciplinary Building Block IA&D, managing a group of enthusiastic SW engineers, who are responsible for design and development of software for image, detection and acquisition sub-systems. You will be responsible for recruitment and hiring, team definition and team budgeting, coaching and training. You define, implement and guard development processes in all phases of product development: architecture, design, implementation and maintenance. You drive improvement projects to continuously enhance our way of working. You are working with several interfaces: partners, subcontractors, many internal interfaces and you contribute to our outsourcing strategy.
With your excellent communication skills you convince, motivate and inspire the software engineers, other discipline architects and engineers as well as external stake holders and senior management.
In addition to your people managements skills, you have an affinity for complex SW architectures and technological challenges. TEM systems already perform to unimaginably extreme tolerances, and improving on these already supreme feats of engineering requires commitment, enthusiasm and leadership.
Responsible for a group of approx. 50 direct and indirect SW engineers
Lead the SW group through the annual HR cycle
Coach and guide the software teams with technical choices, and development of technical skills.
Drive departmental improvement programs to foster agile methodology and continuous integration.
Contribute to the definition of product, technology, process roadmaps in order to achieve an optimal balance between market requirements and technical realistic specifications within the constraints of time and budget.
Drive together with the IA&D software technical leads and architects an architecture vision and drive its realization through running projects
Support Product Owners in product backlog refinement and balancing new features with long term architectural work and maintenance
Support the cross departmental alignment with respect to technical, competence, quality and process aspects.

Education and Qualifications
Master Degree or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Informatics, Physics, Mathematics or equivalent
Ideally OOTI or equivalent post-graduate education
At least 15 years experience in object oriented development of technical software for high-tech equipment, in a complex SW environment consisting of FPGA, embedded and PC software.
Proven track record in people management.
A thorough knowledge of the latest software development methods and methodologies such as Agile / Scrum development, TDD, continuous integration
Experience of implementing successfully new software architectures in high tech products
Thorough knowledge of software integration and software reuse
Strong technical skills in embedded software development
Have an affinity with innovative development projects and feel comfortable with relatively vague requirements
International exposure, ability to work in a multi-site, multi-cultural environment
The ideal candidate has knowledge of:
C++ development for both Microsoft & Linux
Experience with image processing/ pattern recognition
C++ and C# interoperability (option)
