Sustainability is at the heart of all of AkzoNobels activities. Central to this effort is an Integrated Sustainability Team (IST) that coordinates the companys sustainability activities, translating external insights and cross-functional best practices into business opportunities. IST reports directly to the Executive Committee and works very closely with the other functions and businesses through a sophisticated Sustainability Ecosystem.
Within this context, your mission within IST is to assume responsibility for the companys internal and external sustainability reporting, while actively supporting the development and implementation of the sustainability agenda. As such, you should have experience in at least one of these areas of sustainability: Chemicals Management; Issue Management/Public Affairs; Trends & Developments; Stakeholder Management/Engagement; Innovation/R&D; Environmental sciences.

Program Manager Sustainability
The role and its responsibilities
This high-profile position reports directly to the Director Sustainability and is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Your core task is to translate our sustainability strategy into meaningful information for key stakeholders, generating pride and purpose so that AkzoNobel retains and strengthens its leading position in this area.
This requires you to perform a number of key tasks:
Support Investor Relation and strategic stakeholder management by developing strategic sustainability messaging, participating in interviews with investors and rating agencies, etc;
Support the development, renewal and implementation of the AkzoNobel Sustainability Strategy and the translation of the strategy into programs in the functions and businesses;
Develop and deploy a smooth process with the functions and businesses of quarterly progress reports on progress towards delivery of the strategy;
Responsible for the sustainability content in the integrated Annual Report and reporting for the rating agencies.
Sustainability is a critical issue for the organization and the successful delivery of our program contributes to shareholder value, resource productivity and reputation. Thus you frequently and pro-actively check in with ecosystem members to discuss, support progress and flag if additional effort or support etc. is needed.
This demands the ability to influence the different stakeholders so that both buy-in and support is created. You should be able to co-ordinate activities beyond your immediate remit and contribute to greenfield opportunities/approaches and new solutions.
At all times you follow sustainability trends and developments, and you represent the company in high level fora, meetings with investors, rating agencies, etc.

Job requirements/Candidate profile
To apply for this position you must possess all of the following attributes:
Masters degree in Economics, Marketing, Innovation, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, etc. or a combination of such areas;
Approximately 10-15 years of experience in at least two international organizations (public/private/consulting);
Experience in, and strong affinity with, marketing/business development/business model innovation (example: MBA/NIMA B-C);
Program and project management skills and experience, able to run cross-functional and cross-business strategy implementation programs;
A (proven) sense of ownership and the ability to think and work in roles instead of functions;
Powerful communication and interpersonal skills, including fluent written and spoken English.
