Unilever R&D will build a new Global Foods Innovation Centre in Wageningen, the Netherlands. The Foods R&D organizations, currently based in Vlaardingen (The Netherlands), Heilbronn (Germany) and Poznan (Poland) will be co-located in the new centre.
In this way Unilever will create critical mass in expertise areas to ensure that the technologies ultimately bring benefit-led, breakthrough innovations to the markets. In addition, we aim to evolve our R&D sites into innovation ecosystems to leverage the knowledge and expertise of external partners.
The new centre is expected to be fully operational by Quarter 4 – 2019 .
MAIN JOB PURPOSE:
The global cross-category Foods & Refreshments capability team is looking for a Paper Technologist. This role will be a key driver of our forward thinking on new technology opportunities around paper & printing technology. The main purpose of this role is to develop the paper-based packaging technology platform for Foods & Refreshments supporting its packaging framework. The role must ensure the delivery of short, medium and long-term delivery of the agreed programme on paper-based packaging.

Our F&R Packaging Capability organisation is charged with defining and driving best practice in technology, process, tools and techniques across Foods & Refreshments categories. The scope covers Digital Packaging, Packaging Excellence (how we do Packaging), Design Capability, Sustainability and Strategic Materials.
As this is a cross category role there will be exposure across all of Unilevers Foods & Refreshments. There is the potential, based on the candidates success in the role, for exposure at senior levels in the Packaging organisation.
As the Paper Technologist, you will:
-Build the paper-based packaging programme based on the wants from the categories and USLP to deliver a step change impact for Foods & Refreshments and Unilever.
-Ensure the relevance of the programme by close interface with the category packaging directors and the projects category workstream leader
-Possess a thorough understanding of manufacturing & the E2E supply chain for paper to identify opportunities.
-Build the skill level in paper technology through development of relevant training and best practice guideline.
-Provide knowledge, input and expert guidance to major category projects, particularly those with stretching technology requirements.
-Cultivate a robust eco-system of supplier and technology providers, start-ups, etc. to feed tin to programmes and ensure disruption, exclusivity and first to market advantage.
-Work with HCBPC Division, on Unilever-level opportunities.
-Comply with the Unilever Code of Business Principles
KEY REQUIREMENTS :
-Job Experience: 5 years of relevant working experience in the paper industry
-Bachelors Degree or equivalent in paper & printing technology.
-Able to work effectively in and proactively engage with multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural teams.
-Flexibility in work style to be able to manage several projects simultaneously.
