Compliance Counsel with strong focus on data protection and affinity for IT/technology

Your opportunity lies within TomToms Corporate Affairs team which provides support in areas such as legal compliance, data protection and corporate legal matters. You will report into the Head of Corporate Affairs & Company Secretary.
In this position, you will be responsible to oversee TomTom global compliance programs and that TomTom practices comply with data protection laws. You will also liaise with supervisory authorities. You will work closely together with our engineering teams and business stakeholders and provide pragmatic advice to a dynamic, international and fast-moving business.
Here is a little taste of your challenge
Develop, implement and maintain our global compliance programs, policies, procedures and controls based on our Code of Conduct
Inform and advise (data) engineers and other stakeholders about their obligations in the handling and processing of personal data under GDPR and other applicable data protection provisions
Provide on the job training and education to product managers and software engineers regarding privacy & data protectionCompl
Provide options and solutions rather than constraints and blockers
Advise on data privacy impact assessments and data breach response, and report on same as appropriate
Act as point of contact for data subjects on matters related to processing of personal data and their rights under the GDPR
Work closely with the other legal team members with regards to data protection aspects, particularly with respect to contracting
Analyse and translate relevant legislation into guidelines, procedures and contracts
Monitor and regularly audit TomTom’s compliance with European data protection laws, including GDPR and the ePrivacy directive
Report regularly regarding status of compliance programs including GDPR
Actively involved in our Great in Legal programme aiming for continuous improvement of our working processes and legal services;
What do we expect from you?
You have proven track record in privacy law and are excited to work in a Dutch big-data company with a global footprint. You are eager to work on global compliance programs to bring these to life and make them relevant.
You will demonstrate a confident, pragmatic and solution oriented approach to providing pragmatic legal support.
To be successful, this is the kind of profile we have in mind
Masters degree in law and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, including relating to data protection
Understanding of technology industry and trends, particularly as relates to privacy and data security
Well-developed understanding of GDPR and ePrivacy directive
Eagerness to find innovative solutions that further key business goals while protecting privacy of users and others
Strong written and oral communications skills, and the ability to communicate privacy concepts and requirements to all levels of the company
Experiences working closely with cross-functional privacy stakeholders in legal, security, product, HR and other teams
Background in drafting and negotiating appropriate privacy and security provisions in vendor and customer contracts
Self-starting, committed to operational excellence and independent work attitude;
Ability to find practical, pragmatic and creative solutions to compliance issues
Able to advise a fast-paced company operating at global scale
English and Dutch fluency required; fluency in other languages, such as German and/or French preferred
Strong affinity with IT/Technology
