The NanoPort team, within the Sales and Service Division (SSD), runs a state-of-the-art electron microscopy lab, supporting account managers and external Thermo Fisher Scientific customers in the Science and Industry markets. Key deliverables of the NanoPort team are:
Customer applications training and application support to provide unparalleled value, allowing users to obtain the best possible results and value from their instruments in the shortest possible time.
Carefully prepared product and workflow demonstrations, based on a solid understanding of customers application needs, providing evidence of the unique value of Thermo Scientific solutions in a highly competitive market.
Successful system acceptance tests in our production facilities in Eindhoven and Brno.
Applications-related contribution to new soft- and hardware developments in R&D.
Support for the Product Marketing team with marketing material as well as conference and workshop contributions
Building on a solid scientific foundation combined with a strong commercial interest and excellent communication skills, the Application Scientist works closely with top specialists in electron microscopy at leading research institutes in Life Sciences, ensuring that early adopters of new Thermo Scientific technology are successful in obtaining optimal results from their microscope.
The Application Scientist also serves as a scientific ambassador for Thermo Scientific at the customer location. Operating at the cutting edge of science and nanotechnology, the Application Scientist is responsible for advanced customer training and the (scientific) results achieved, as well as for providing the customer with an efficient inroad into Thermo Scientific.
The Application Scientist will also perform product and workflow demonstrations and system acceptance tests, and provide valuable feedback to R&D and Product Management, thereby steering and evaluating/testing new products, software and accessories.
Specific deliverables associated with this opportunity include:
Facilitation of microscope acceptance in the production facility and support to installation and acceptance at customer sites;
Act as Equipment Owner while on assignment at customer location
Deliver content for application notes in close collaboration with Thermo Scientific marketing, support customers in achieving publishable scientific results;
Execution of demonstrations and sample analysis, supporting sales opportunities in the NanoPort or at customer sites;
Conduct customer training and translate customer needs into workable solutions;
Multiple supporting tasks such as applications support for new product development, contributions to manuals and application notes, experimental research to advance applications knowledge, presentations at workshops and conferences; scientific publications.
The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:
Typically requires an advanced degree (PhD) in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Biophysics or Structural Biology with strong academic background demonstrating expertise in critical microscopy application areas (sample preparation, cryo-EM data collection and processing)
Typically requires approximately 5 years of experience in high-end electron-microscopy in an advanced research (academia or industry) environment
Proven record of published peer-reviewed articles
Experience in interacting with customers, service, marketing and R&D
Confident, determined and people-oriented
Capacity to work independently as well as in a team
Strong communicative and inter-cultural skills (verbal and non-verbal)
Willingness to very frequent traveling (up to 70%)
